Mechanics

We answer your thermo-mechanics and structural-mechanics questions. Highly dynamic problems such as drop tests for failure analyses or movement of fast objects (impact), we solve using explicit dynamics.

Machining of Hard Materials

Shrinkage during sintering of ceramics or powder metals could cause non-centric positioning of a tool relative to drill hole pre-machined after ceramic green forming. The resulting lateral forces on the tool could lead to tool misalignment, increased tool wear, or even to tool failure. Simulations show the magnitude of the relevant forces in dependence on e.g., clamping length, tool material, or misalignment, leading to cost savings in tool costs or down time.

Ceramic Heater Support

Electric heaters for industrial furnaces frequently are supported by ceramic structures. During heat-up as well as in stationary operation conditions, temperature gradients within the ceramic structure lead to thermo-mechanical stresses. The design of the ceramic support is optimized by simulation of various load cases to guarantee low production costs, mechanical stability, and high thermal stress resistance.
